The SentrySafe X-series (the X041E, X055, X075, X105 and X125, and the older X014E) are low-cost digital security safes for home and office. They have an oval keypad with a knob, a yellow LED and a green LED, and a small override key under a cover. They run on four AA batteries in the door. This guide covers how to open it, set your own user code, replace the batteries, open it with the override key, and what the lights mean.

Is this your lock?

- A black steel safe with a SentrySafe logo and an oval keypad with a knob on the door. The keypad has the numbers 0 to 9, a # key, and a yellow and a green LED.
- A small cover between the knob and the keypad hides the override key lock. An override key is provided with the safe.
- The model number (X041E, X055, X075, X105, X125, or the same number with ML) is on the label. Sentry’s manual is part number 7000-0885.
- Four AA batteries sit in a compartment on the inside of the door.
How to open it
- Enter your code (the factory code from your owner’s manual, or your user code), then press #.
- The green LED comes on and stays on for 5 seconds.
- Within 5 seconds, turn the knob clockwise and pull the door open.
With the override key (battery dead, or code lost)
- Remove the cover between the knob and the keypad.
- Insert the override key and turn it counterclockwise.
- Turn the knob clockwise to open the door.
- Turn the key back clockwise to take it out, and put the cover back on the door.
- Locking: with the bolts back in the door, close the door firmly and turn the knob counterclockwise.
- After you set a user code, the factory code no longer opens the safe, so keep your code somewhere safe (but not inside the safe).
How to change the battery
The safe uses four AA alkaline batteries (we recommend Procell). A red LED when you press a button means the battery is low. Do not use rechargeable batteries or any other non-alkaline type, and do not mix old and new, or alkaline and other types.
- With the door open, find the battery compartment cover on the inside of the door.
- Slide the cover in the direction of the arrow and take it off.
- Put in four new AA alkaline batteries. Follow the + and – marks in the compartment.
- Slide the cover back into place.
- Test your code several times with the door open.
- If the safe is closed and the battery is dead, use the override key (see above), and then change the batteries.
How to set your own user code
Do this with the safe door OPEN.
Test your new code several times before you put valuables in and close the door. Sentry says that once you set a user code, the factory code stops working.
- With the door open, remove the battery compartment cover.
- Find the button inside the battery compartment and press it. The yellow LED comes on.
- Enter your new user code (2 to 8 digits) and press #.
- The yellow LED goes off: the new code is accepted and stored.
- Put the battery cover back on and test the new code.
- If you lose your factory code, SentrySafe can look it up from your model and serial number on its Lost Key or Combo page.
Lights and beeps
| What you see and hear | What it means and what to do |
|---|---|
| Green LED for 5 seconds | The code was right. Turn the knob clockwise now. |
| Yellow LED on after you press the button in the battery compartment | The safe is ready for a new user code. When the yellow LED goes off, the new code is stored. |
| Red LED comes on when you press a button | The battery is low. Install four new AA alkaline batteries, or open it with the override key. |
| No response from the keypad | The battery is low, or the code was not valid. Install four new AA alkaline batteries, or open it with the override key. |
| 5 beeps and a yellow LED after you enter your code | Wait one minute and try your code again, or open it with the override key. |
Wrong codes
Sentry’s manual says that 5 beeps and a yellow LED after you enter a code means you should wait one minute and try again, or use the override key.
If your safe is an X014E
The X014E is an older, smaller X-series safe with its own manual (P52122). It has a knob, a key (the override key) and a round keypad, and it uses four AA batteries.
- Open: enter your code and press #. The lock gives two beeps and the PROCEED light turns green. Turn the knob counterclockwise.
- Change your code (door open): with the door open and the PROCEED light off, press the red changing button on the hinge side of the door. The READY light turns orange. Within 5 seconds, enter your new personal code (1 to 10 digits) and press #. The READY light goes out: the code is changed. Sentry says the original code can then no longer open the safe.
- Batteries: slide the battery cover on the inside back of the door up, put in four AA alkaline batteries, and put the cover back. The LOW BATTERY light flashes 8 times after the door is opened when they are low.
- In an emergency: take off the cover between the knob and the keypad, turn the override key clockwise, and while holding the key turned, turn the knob counterclockwise.
- Three wrong codes in a row put the safe in delay mode: it shuts down and beeps for 60 seconds. Do not put the override key inside the safe.
If it still won’t open
The keypad does nothing
Install four new AA alkaline batteries. If it still does nothing, open the safe with the override key and call us.
I got 5 beeps and a yellow LED
Wait one minute and enter your code again. You can also use the override key.
I lost the override key
SentrySafe can send a replacement key if you give them the model and serial number. Their Lost Key or Combo page has the form. Call us if you need the safe opened.
I changed the code and now the old one does not work
That is normal. Sentry says the factory code stops working once a user code is set. Use your user code, or the override key.
