Safe lock troubleshooting › Securam › SafeLogic Direct Drive (Basic and C10)
The Securam SafeLogic Direct Drive (also called the D-Drive) is a keypad with a turning ring that moves a deadbolt directly. You enter your code, then rotate the keypad to open. This guide covers the SafeLogic Basic Direct Drive and the C10 Direct Drive, how to change the code, the 9-volt battery, and what the beeps mean.

Is this your lock?

- A round Securam keypad that you turn after entering a code.
- It uses a 6-digit code and one 9-volt alkaline battery, and works with a Securam DL-1701 D-Drive deadbolt lock body.
- Basic Direct Drive (EM-1701A): one code. C10 Direct Drive (EM-1701A-C10): a Manager code (ID 01) plus 8 user codes (ID 02 to ID 09).
- A Securam keypad that does not turn, or that has a screen, is a different lock. See the SafeLogic Basic or ProLogic guides.
How to open it
- Enter your 6-digit code.
- The motor turns to open. Rotate the keypad to the right to retract the bolt and open the door.
- The lock relocks automatically after 6 seconds. To close and lock the safe, rotate the keypad to the left.
- The keypad goes back to standby (two short beeps) if you do not press a key for 10 seconds.
- For indoor use only.
How to change the battery
The keypad uses one 9-volt alkaline battery that sits in the back of the keypad (Securam says to replace it once a year; we recommend Procell). When the battery is low, the keypad gives 8 beeps during an unlock. Replace it immediately.
- With the safe door open, take the keypad off its base. In Securam’s installation guide the battery is on the back of the keypad, in a clip marked + and -, and the keypad seats on its base with two pins that fit two pin holes.
- Unsnap the old battery from its clip and snap on a new 9-volt alkaline battery, matching the + and – markings.
- Put the keypad back on its base, with the pins in the pin holes.
- Enter your code and check that the lock opens, with the safe door still open.
- If you are not sure how to get the keypad off your door, do not force it: call us.
How to change the code
Do this with the lock unlocked and the safe door OPEN.
Check that the new code works before you close the door. The lock will not let you use six zeros (000000) as a code.
- Enter 000000. One beep means the keypad is waiting for the change.
- Enter your existing 6-digit code. One beep means it was accepted.
- Enter your new 6-digit code. One beep means it was accepted.
- Enter the new code again. One beep means the two entries match and the code change worked.
- If you hear three beeps, the change failed and your old code is still valid. Repeat the steps.
- Test the new code at least 3 times before you close the door.
C10 Direct Drive
The C10 follows the same order but gives a double beep when your new code is accepted. A user code cannot be 000000 or 999999.
- Enter 000000. One beep.
- Enter your existing 6-digit code. One beep.
- Enter your new 6-digit code. Two beeps.
- Enter the new code again. One beep means the change worked. Three beeps means it failed and the old code still works.
- If you stop pressing keys for 10 seconds, the keypad goes back to standby (two short beeps) and the change is not made.
What the beeps and lights mean
| What you hear / see | What it means |
|---|---|
| 2 short beeps | Standby: no key was pressed for 10 seconds. |
| 8 beeps while unlocking | The battery is low. Replace it immediately. |
| 1 beep after the new code entries | That entry was accepted. The last 1 beep confirms the code change worked. |
| 3 beeps during a code change | The change failed. Your old code still works. Try again. |
| A beep every 5 seconds, keys do nothing | Penalty time (lockout). See below. |
Wrong-code lockout
If four incorrect codes are entered in a row, the keypad enters a 5-minute penalty time. It beeps every 5 seconds and the keys do not respond. Pressing buttons during the penalty does not restart or lengthen it. Taking the battery out pauses the countdown, and it picks up where it left off when you put the battery back, so removing the battery does not skip the wait.
If it still won’t open
The code is accepted but the door will not open
After a valid code, rotate the keypad to the right right away. The lock relocks after 6 seconds. If it still will not turn, do not force it: call us.
The keypad is dead
Replace the 9-volt battery with a fresh alkaline one. If it is still dead, call us.
It beeps 8 times and will not open
The battery is low. Replace it right away, then try your code again.
