Safe lock troubleshooting › Sargent & Greenleaf (S&G) › Titan round keypad (models 2006 and 2007)
The S&G Titan (lock models 2006 and 2007) is a round electronic keypad lock with a master code, a supervisor code and up to 8 user codes. It can also have a time delay, a duress option and a dual-user setting. This guide covers how to open it, change your code, change the battery, and what the beeps and the 10-minute penalty mean.

Is this your lock?

- A round keypad with a chrome ring, 12 keys (1 to 9, *, 0, #), a small red light at the upper left, and the S&G logo at the bottom.
- It looks a lot like the S&G Spartan. The Titan is the version with a supervisor code, up to 8 user codes, a time delay and an opening window. If you are not sure which one you have, the model is printed on the lock body inside the door, or call us.
- S&G sells it as a D-Drive model (you turn the keypad to open) and with other bolt types (you turn the handle).
- It runs on one 9-volt battery in the keypad.
How to open it
Multiple-user mode (the normal setting)
- Enter your 6-digit code, then press #.
- Then rotate the keypad to the right if it is a D-Drive lock, or turn the safe handle on any other model.
Dual-user mode (two codes needed)
- Enter the first code and #.
- Within 30 seconds, enter the second code and #.
- Then rotate the keypad to the right (D-Drive) or turn the handle.
- Every key press makes the red light flash and the keypad beep. If it does not, check that the battery is fresh and connected.
- If you make a mistake, press ** or wait 10 seconds and the lock clears itself. Do not wait more than 10 seconds between key presses.
- If your lock has a time delay, there is a set time between a valid code and the moment the safe can be opened. The opening window after it lasts 1 to 15 minutes (the factory setting is 2 minutes). S&G’s sheet covers how to set these: see the download box below.
How to change the battery
The lock uses one 9-volt alkaline battery (we recommend Procell) in the keypad. S&G’s sheet says that if a key press does not make the keypad beep and flash, you should check that the battery is fresh and connected properly.
- If you can, leave the safe door open while you change the battery.
- Press the blue tab at the top of the keypad ring and release the keypad by turning it. The battery is on the side of the keypad. (The video linked below shows this on a Titan D-Drive keypad. If your keypad does not look like the one in the video, call us.)
- Pull the old 9-volt battery off its connector and snap a new alkaline 9-volt battery on. Do not force the connector.
- Put the keypad back and turn it to lock it in place.
- Press a key to make sure the red light flashes and the keypad beeps.
- After you change the battery, open and lock the lock several times with the door open before you close the safe.
- The video says alkaline batteries are recommended. The lock works in a temperature range of 0 to 50 degrees Celsius (32 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit).
How to change a code
Always do this with the safe door OPEN.
Test the new code several times before you close the door. Wait for each set of beeps to finish before you press the next key, or you interrupt the sequence. Do not use a birthday or other predictable number.
Change your own code
- Press 22*.
- Enter your current code and press #.
- Enter your new code and press #.
- Enter the new code again and press #.
Add or change a user (the master or supervisor code is needed)
- Press 74*.
- Enter the master code (or the supervisor code) and press #.
- Enter the PIN position for the user: 1 is the supervisor, 2 to 9 are users. Press #.
- Enter the new code and press #.
- Enter the new code again and press #.
Delete a user or supervisor code
- Press 74*, enter the master code (or supervisor code) and press #.
- Enter the PIN position to delete, then #, #, #.
- The master code cannot be deleted, and the supervisor code cannot be used to delete itself.
- A long continuous beep during any of these steps means you made a mistake. Start again from the beginning.
- To find out which PIN positions are in use, press 77* and a PIN position number (0 to 9). One short beep means it is in use, one long beep means it is not.
- Keypad volume is set with 78*, the master code, #, then 0 (off), 1 (low) or 2 (high).
- The time delay, opening window, duress option and dual-user setting are set from the master code. Changing to dual-user mode cannot be undone, so call us before you try it.
What the beeps mean
| What you hear | What it means |
|---|---|
| A beep and a flash of the red light on every key press | The lock registered that key. |
| A long continuous beep during a programming step | You made an error. Start the steps again from the beginning. |
| Two long beeps when you press a key | The lock is in its 10-minute penalty. It will not open. |
| One short beep after a PIN position number (77*) | That PIN position is in use. |
| One long beep after a PIN position number (77*) | That PIN position is not in use, or is disabled. |
Wrong codes (penalty)
If 5 wrong codes are entered in a row within 10 minutes, the lock starts a 10-minute penalty time. If you press a button during that time you hear two long beeps, and the lock will not open. S&G says the only way out is to wait 10 minutes before you enter a valid code.
If it still won’t open
The keypad does not beep or flash when I press keys
Check the 9-volt battery: it needs to be fresh and connected properly. If you hear two long beeps, the lock is in its 10-minute penalty: wait.
I entered the right code and nothing happened
If the lock has a time delay, the safe will not open until the delay ends. Wait for the delay, then enter the code during the opening window.
I changed the code and it does not work
Repeat the change with the door open and wait for each set of beeps. If you hear a long continuous beep, start over.
I lost the master code
Some locks ship with an envelope for a management reset code. If you have it, S&G’s sheet explains how it works (and says it clears all other codes). If you do not, call us.
