Safe lock troubleshooting › Sargent & Greenleaf › E-Vault electronic vault lock (Model 6550)

The Sargent & Greenleaf E-Vault (Model 6550) is an electronic vault lock: S&G’s attack-resistant vault lock case with the electronics of its A-Series locks inside. It is made for vault doors and high-security safes, and it uses the same bolt footprint as S&G’s 6400 and 6500 mechanical vault locks. The 6550-110 and 6550-111 are powered by the Model 6129 lock. The 6550-121 is powered by the Model 3029. This page tells you what the parts are and what the lock can do. S&G marks its operating guides for these locks as confidential, so we do not copy the steps: call us and we will help with your lock.

Is this your lock?

  • A heavy vault lock case inside the door, with a keypad on the outside. The 6550-110 and 6550-111 use a 2-battery keypad (satin chrome) with a keypad extension. The 6550-121 uses a digital keypad with a display (bright chrome).
  • 6550-110: roller bolt. 6550-111: square bolt. 6550-121: square bolt with the digital keypad.
  • The 6550-110 and -111 are powered by the 6129 (A-Series) lock, so the A-Series ATM lock guide shows what the keypad lights mean. The 6550-121 is powered by the 3029.
  • MBA lists these as the S&G E-Vault lock and E-Vault lock and keypad.

What the E-Vault can do

These are S&G’s catalog features. Which of them are turned on depends on how your vault was set up.

  1. Heavy-duty, motor-driven lock mechanism in S&G’s vault lock case.
  2. Three modes of operation: single control, dual control and manager/employee.
  3. Codes: up to 18 on the 6550-110 and -111, up to 100 on the 6550-121.
  4. Time delay from 1 to 99 minutes, penalty lockout, and an optional duress module that needs an alarm interface.
  5. Audit trail: 400 events on the 6550-110 and -111 (downloaded with a Dallas iButton), 1,000 events on the 6550-121 (downloaded to a USB flash drive).
  6. S&G says the vault locks are available with time lock management or one-time code (OTC) operation.
  • The steps to open, change a code or set the clock are in S&G’s guides for the 6129 and 3029 locks. S&G marks those guides confidential, so we are not reproducing them here.

If it still won’t open

I do not know my codes or how my lock is set up

Ask whoever manages the vault (the manager or programmer). Please do not keep guessing, because a penalty lockout shuts the lock down after wrong codes. Call us and we will go over your options.

The keypad is dark or does not respond

The batteries may be dead. Call us before you open anything: this is a vault lock and the keypad and its cable are part of the lock’s security.

I need to download the audit trail

The 6550-110 and -111 download to a Dallas iButton, and the 6550-121 to a USB flash drive. The steps are in S&G’s guides, which we cannot reproduce here. Call us.
